Literacy, numeracy and digital competence will be statutory responsibilities across all areas of learning and experience and will need to be considered within all curriculum design. It will be the responsibility of all teachers to plan progression across the full range of literacy, numeracy and digital skills.
How literacy, numeracy and digital competence skills are developed in and across the areas of learning and experience will be decided at a local level and will fit with individual schools’ approaches. To ensure that learners develop high levels of competence in these skills and have frequent opportunities to develop, extend and apply them across the curriculum the National Literacy and Numeracy Framework (LNF) and the Digital Competence Framework (DCF) will continue to be available.
You will notice structural revision to the frameworks and skills are now shown along progression steps rather than year groups. Refinement will also be required to ensure the framework meets the needs of learners and reflects current and emerging technologies within the framework.
The revision to the frameworks will take place following this feedback phase on the curriculum. An interactive version of the frameworks will then be made available.
