STEM Week

STEM week 2020 Children had the opportunity to take part in a variety of workshops and work collaboratively to develop their knowledge and understanding of science, technology, engineering and mechanics.

During STEM week the children in Year 2 took part in lots of activities and workshops. They enjoyed learning about germs and bacteria and made slime. They also enjoyed learning all about Gas Safety and Safety Seymour told them all about how to keep safe from carbon monoxide in the home.

Children really enjoyed building models out of Lego and coding them to move and change colour. This workshop was delivered by staff from the Eden Centre.

Children worked with Year 4 to build structures to withstand an Earthquake. Children had to work in groups and used a range of materials such as straws, masking tape and cardboard. They placed their structures on a box and shook it really hard to see of it would withstand an Earthquake. This was called the 'shake test'. Children really enjoyed collaborating with older children to do this.

Children also had the opportunity to fly a drone. This was their favourite activity of the week. They had to land the dron on a landing pad. This was really tricky but most of the children mastered how to do this by the end of the week.

Children thoroughly enjoyed STEM week and they can't wait to take part next year!
